I would just like to say that the White Privilege reading really brought me in. I defiantly was very interested in it and it drew my attention. Chapter 14—Inequality - “White Privilege” by Peggy McIntosh: "White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, assurances, tools, maps guides...." One privilege that I talked about in class was that It is a privilege to have a child. In some parts of the world you can only have a certain number and even in other places you can only have a specific gender. It is so sad what they do to these poor innocent helpless children. I'm defiantly grateful for this privilege and I'm sure other people are as well. Many people don't even realize how good they have it sometimes just a little reading like this can change a person's views on our privileges and it makes you feel thankful. *Brittany*
****BLOG POST **** NOVEMBER 7TH . 2014 KAY AND SHIPMAN AND VALENTI WHO IS MORE OF A SOCIOLOGIST ?? After reading these great sociology posts I thought..What makes being a sociologist so great? I think a sociologists’ thoughts and ideas are valued are what make a sociologists minds precise. They also have a good deal of respect. I think that I'm going to have to side with Valenti and say that she is more of a sociologist. I say this because of this "But the "confidence gap" is not a personal defect as much as it is a reflection of a culture that gives women no reason to feel self-assured." I defiantly agree with this statement. The american society are going to view all different women all differently. The truth is, if you're not insecure, you're not paying attention. When she said that It didn't make sense to me at first but then I found it quite interesting. -B
