Stratification contributes to fashion because people in the upper class are going to buy more expensive clothing and they will go shopping more often because they have the money. People in the middle class will buy less expensive clothing, look for sales and the items made for them are more massed produced rather the designer garments that are made for the upper class. People in the lower class will rarely shop and they shop solely for comfort rather then trends.
Hi Brittany! I can you flesh out this argument a bit more? I think classes mix up fashion more than your suggesting, or maybe not but I'd like to hear more!
****BLOG POST **** NOVEMBER 7TH . 2014 KAY AND SHIPMAN AND VALENTI WHO IS MORE OF A SOCIOLOGIST ?? After reading these great sociology posts I thought..What makes being a sociologist so great? I think a sociologists’ thoughts and ideas are valued are what make a sociologists minds precise. They also have a good deal of respect. I think that I'm going to have to side with Valenti and say that she is more of a sociologist. I say this because of this "But the "confidence gap" is not a personal defect as much as it is a reflection of a culture that gives women no reason to feel self-assured." I defiantly agree with this statement. The american society are going to view all different women all differently. The truth is, if you're not insecure, you're not paying attention. When she said that It didn't make sense to me at first but then I found it quite interesting. -B
